Post Production: Colour Correction

Once I had finished editing and adding all the sound effects to my short film I still felt there was something missing. Andrew told us about this method called Colour Correction which was a neat way to brighten up your clips without having to re-film them, this was particularly useful for me as I had 2 or 3 clips where the scene was a bit dark and wasn't up to the contrast of the rest of the footage which made it look out of place and un-professional.

To use colour correction you have to go to Filters -> Colour Correction -> Colour Corrector 3-way this brings up 3 colour dials which allow you to adjust the Blacks, Mids and Whites of the selected clip (that is in your canvas).

In this screenshot you can see the Colour Corrector window, in this you adjust the sliders or the dials and get the required result, for example if your clip is too blue, you can add some red to counter that and bring the colour back to a natural composition. You can also apply the same colour correction to every clip of you choice by using this tool: 'Drag Filter'.

Here above you can see two screenshots, the screenshot on the left is a non corrected image and the one on the right is after I have applied the colour correction filter. As you can see the main differences if that the colour corrected image is much more vibrant and visually appealing whereas the old clip is boring grey and doesn't fit in with the rest of the movie. I did this by simply increasing the saturation on the 3-way colour correction window and then applying the filter.
